NDP echos call for increased and ongoing mental health funding

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario NDP Mental Health and Addictions critic Lisa Gretzky and Health critic France Gélinas issued the following statement echoing the Canadian Mental Health Associations' call for increased mental health funding:

"So many people in Ontario are not okay. Adults, youth and children are struggling with mental health issues, with many unable to access the care or treatment they need when they need it.

Too many are forced to wait until they're in crisis to get help.

We strongly echo the call of Canadian Mental Health Associations across the province for the Ford government to provide a significant, immediate and ongoing base funding increase to the community mental health and addictions sector.

The Ford government continues to underfund the mental health and addictions sector. Mental health care is health care.

This government must listen to the calls for help and provide the substantial and sustained funding boost that is needed to meet service demands, increase services, reduce wait times and address the pressing issue of staff burnout and stress."
